Community Initiatives
People, Planet, Profit: these are the three pillars laid down by our founder the late C. C Shroff which guide us to this day. ‘Pappa’ as he was always affectionately called within the Excel family, always stressed the importance embracing integrated growth and a holistic thinking towards business.
Motivated by his ideals, we have always sought to become a positive influence on every community that we touch and work towards the conservation and rejuvenation of the environment. Going beyond the call of CSR, we consider our community and environmental initiatives as simply a part of our corporate mission.
We have initiated and sustained a number of NGOs and outreach programmes, some of which are listed below.

The trust focuses on promoting need based initiatives in the villages and communities surrounding our plants in Lote and Roha in Maharashtra.
Groundwater conservation is one of the key impact areas identified by the trust. Drawing on the experience of other Shroff family NGOs and trusts, the trust has helped construct Three Check Dams or Bandharas on the river Kharavilli with the active participation of villagers and NSS students. Built with enthusiastic contribution and participation by the local communities, the Bandharas have been filling to the brim every monsoon which has resulted in a significant improvement in the water resources available to the community.
Some of the other programmes include:
- Seed distribution
- Distribution of saplings
- Plantation drives around schools and hospitals in the region
- Initiatives to engage school children
- Distribution of cotton bags and working with the people to reduce plastic litter

Contributing meaningfully to the nation and the cause of the environment has always been a priority of the Shroff family. The family trusts and NGOs led by family members have made contributions that have deeply enriched thousands of lives. Family organizations such as Shroff Foundation Trust, Shrujan Trust, Vivekanand Gramudyog Society, Shri Vivekanand Research and Training Institute have worked in a number of underdeveloped areas and made a significant impact on the quality of life of the people, by promoting better agriculture, promoting and developing local artisans, water conservation projects and irrigation projects among other initiatives.
Other family organizations such as the Shroff Family Charitable trust, Aatapi Seva Foundation, CC Shroff Self Help Centre, have worked closely with disadvantaged sections - such as women and tribal population - in underdeveloped areas. Partnering closely with the target communities, the organizations have helped them utilize their inner potential to create better lives for themselves.
The work done by the family initiatives has been recognized at a number of fora and by a number of government bodies and, most importantly, by our partner communities themselves. The words of our Pappa remain close to us, and remind us every day of our wider mission and corporate goals.
